How to Buy a Virtual Dedicated Server in Ghana: Accra Hosting Guide

By Bridget Afful | Last updated on October 13, 2026

Buying a Virtual Dedicated Server in Ghana gives your business dedicated computing resources close to the people using your website or application. Our Ghana VDS runs in Accra, with dedicated CPU and RAM, locally attached NVMe storage and full root access to build the environment your project needs.

This guide takes you from comparing plans to configuring your order. You will see prices in Ghana cedis with the US dollar equivalents, how to choose your operating system, and where to add backups and snapshots stored in Accra, Ghana.

  • Local hosting: your VDS runs in Accra, Ghana.
  • Dedicated resources: your VDS allocation is not shared.
  • Flexible configuration: choose Linux, billing cycle and optional add-ons.
  • Recovery planning: add backup storage and snapshots before going live.

What does dedicated server hosting in Ghana mean?

“Dedicated server” can describe two different buying choices: a complete physical machine or a Virtual Dedicated Server with reserved resources. The packages covered here are VDS plans. They give you dedicated resources within a virtualised environment, rather than a whole physical server exclusively assigned to your account.

That distinction helps you buy the right service. You can choose a VDS for a production website, API, database or business application that needs predictable resource allocation and root access. If your architecture specifically requires an entire physical machine, speak with our team about the suitable configuration and location.

Hosting optionWhat you are choosingTypical fit
Shared hostingA managed website hosting environmentA straightforward business website with standard hosting needs
VPSA virtual server; resource allocation depends on the planProjects that need their own operating system and flexible capacity
Our Ghana VDSDedicated CPU, RAM and storage allocation on a virtual server in AccraApplications that need dedicated performance and local hosting
Whole physical serverAn entire machine for your workloadProjects with specific hardware or physical isolation requirements

Our Ghana VDS uses KVM virtualisation and includes a static IPv4 address. You receive root access, so you can install your application stack, configure services and manage the operating system. Plan for someone to maintain that software environment as part of your deployment.

Why choose a server hosted in Accra?

If your customers, staff or application users are mainly in Ghana, server location deserves a place on your shortlist. Hosting in Accra can shorten the network journey between local users and your application compared with hosting far away. The result also depends on your users’ internet providers, routing, page weight and application design.

For example, a booking platform serving Accra customers makes repeated calls to its database and payment services. A local server places the application closer to its Ghanaian users, while dedicated resources give the development team a clearer capacity budget. You can then improve the experience further through caching, database indexing and efficient page delivery.

  • Local application hosting: run customer portals, internal dashboards and APIs in Ghana.
  • Data location: keep this VDS and its optional backup and snapshot add-ons physically in Ghana.
  • Local buying experience: compare your monthly budget in cedis and reach our support team for configuration help.
  • Room to grow: increase resources as your database, traffic or application demand expands.

Our Ghana VDS is hosted in Accra, and its optional backups and snapshots are also physically stored in Accra, Ghana. You can choose dedicated resources and recovery add-ons together while keeping your VDS hosting and these recovery copies local.

Ghana VDS plans and monthly prices

Our main Ghana VDS plans start at GH₵2,000 per month. The table below places cedi prices first and includes the US dollar amounts displayed for the same plans.

PlanDedicated vCPURAMLocal NVMeMonthly GHSDisplayed USD
VDS S3 cores24 GB450 GBGH₵2,000.00$182.52
VDS M4 cores32 GB600 GBGH₵2,710.00$247.31
VDS L6 cores48 GB900 GBGH₵4,000.00$365.04
VDS XL8 cores64 GB1.2 TBGH₵5,376.00$490.61

Each of these plans includes one static IPv4 address and lists unlimited traffic subject to the traffic policy explained below. Ubuntu, Debian and AlmaLinux are available Linux choices. Backup storage, snapshots and a control panel are configuration options with separate charges.

Prices shown above were reviewed at the time of writing. The dollar figures are our displayed currency equivalents, rather than an exchange rate you need to calculate yourself. Select your preferred currency on the website and review the final configuration total when ordering.

Compare the billing cycle as well as the monthly rate. The order page offers monthly, quarterly and annual billing. A price shown “per month” on an annual choice represents a monthly equivalent; the amount due today reflects the full selected period. Monthly billing can be useful while you establish the workload and recovery requirements.

Choose the right dedicated resources for your workload

Start with what your application does, rather than choosing the largest package immediately. Dedicated CPU matters for active processing; RAM supports databases, caches and concurrent services; storage must hold application data, logs and growth. These resources solve different constraints.

CPU: match your processing demand

Web requests, scheduled jobs, report generation and background workers all consume CPU. A small brochure website has a different workload from an ecommerce store importing products while processing orders. Record how many jobs must run at once, then select enough dedicated cores for that activity.

RAM: allow space for your complete stack

Include the operating system, web server, database, cache and any containers in your memory budget. The 24 GB on VDS S and 32 GB on VDS M provide useful capacity for substantial application stacks, but the right choice depends on the software and dataset. Monitor real usage after launch instead of treating RAM alone as a visitor limit.

NVMe: plan for data growth

Our NVMe storage is on the host server, locally attached rather than NAS-backed. Budget storage for the current dataset, uploads, database indexes, logs and temporary work. Keep room for expansion and maintenance. Backup quota is a separate recovery-storage choice; it does not simply add capacity to your server’s live disk.

Our VDS M is a practical option to evaluate when your project needs 4 dedicated vCPU cores, 32 GB RAM and 600 GB NVMe. Send our team your stack, current usage and expected growth if you want help comparing it with VDS S, L or XL.

How to buy a Virtual Dedicated Server in Ghana: 7 steps

1. Open our Ghana VDS plans

Visit our VDS hosting page and compare the dedicated CPU, RAM and NVMe allocation. Use the currency selector to display GHS for a cedi budget or USD for the dollar equivalent. Click Choose plan below the package you want.

2. Select your billing cycle

On the Configure page, choose Monthly, Quarterly or Annually. Select your preferred billing cycle and confirm the selected option. Review the amount due today and choose the cycle that matches your budget.

3. Keep the server location set to Ghana

The configuration page offers several African locations. For this Accra-hosted service, keep Location: Ghana selected. A change to another location changes where the server is hosted, even if the other resource settings remain familiar.

4. Choose a supported Linux operating system

The current choices are Ubuntu 24.04 or 22.04, Debian 12 or 11, and AlmaLinux 9 or 8. Select the version supported by your application, deployment tools and any control panel. For a new project, check your software’s installation requirements before choosing the image.

5. Add backup quota and snapshots

Open Backup Quota and choose the recovery-storage capacity you need. Then choose one or two snapshots under Snapshots if you want point-in-time rollback capability. Both fields default to None, so select the add-ons explicitly when you want them.

A backup plan should match the amount of protected data and the number of retained copies. A snapshot is useful before an upgrade or configuration change. The next section explains how to combine these options without treating either one as a complete recovery strategy by itself.

6. Review the control-panel option and server details

The default is No Control Panel. The Ghana VDS configuration page offers paid cPanel & WHM and Webuzo options. Choose a panel only if it suits your application and administration workflow. Adding a panel licence is different from purchasing a server-management service.

Enter a meaningful hostname, such as server1.example.com, using a domain you control. Set a strong, unique root password and store it securely. After provisioning, configure SSH keys and an appropriate administrator account for routine work.

7. Check the total and complete your order

Review the Configuration Summary before continuing. Check the plan, Ghana location, operating system, billing period, backup quota, snapshot allowance and panel selection. Proceed through checkout using the payment options presented for your account. Keep the order confirmation and follow the provisioning instructions to access your server.

Here is a monthly example from the configuration page: VDS M at GH₵2,710 + 100 GB Backup Quota at GH₵54 + one snapshot at GH₵51.12 = GH₵2,815.12 per month, with No Control Panel selected. This example shows why the base plan and optional protection should be budgeted together.

Backups and snapshots: choose your recovery options

Your server’s live NVMe disk holds the working application. Backups and snapshots provide recovery options when data is deleted, software changes fail or you need to restore an earlier state. For our Ghana VDS, these are optional product add-ons and are physically stored in Accra, Ghana.

Optional backup quotaDisplayed monthly charge (GHS)
50 GBGH₵27.00
100 GBGH₵54.00
200 GBGH₵108.00
300 GBGH₵162.00
500 GBGH₵270.00
1,000 GBGH₵540.00
1,500 GBGH₵810.00
2,000 GBGH₵1,080.00

The snapshot options shown for the monthly configuration are one snapshot at GH₵51.12 or two snapshots at GH₵102.24. These add-on prices were checked with VDS M; review the options and total for your chosen plan and billing cycle.

Recovery optionMain purposeHow to use it well
Backup quotaStorage capacity for saved recovery dataSize it around protected data, retention and the backup method
Snapshot allowanceA point-in-time server stateCapture before a major change and check application consistency
Application-aware backupA consistent recovery copy of a database or applicationUse appropriate database tools and test a full restore

For example, 80 GB of protected data does not automatically fit a long backup history inside a 100 GB quota. Multiple full copies need more storage; incremental or compressed backups depend on the implementation and daily changes. Discuss schedule, retention, restore procedure and quota behaviour with our team when selecting the service.

Before taking a snapshot of a busy database, use the application’s supported consistency procedure. Restoring an older server snapshot may also revert orders, uploads and configuration created after that point. Keep recent application backups and identify the recovery point before rolling back a production service.

Backup quota and snapshot allowance for Ghana VDS recovery planning
Use backup capacity for recovery planning and a snapshot before major changes; test restoration before you need it.
  • Define how much recent data your business can afford to lose.
  • Decide how quickly the application must be restored.
  • Select enough quota for the protected data and retention plan.
  • Document who can create, restore and remove recovery copies.
  • Test restoration into a safe environment and check the application, not just the files.

Your VDS, optional backups and snapshots are all hosted in Accra, Ghana. Choose the backup quota and snapshot allowance that match your application, then plan retention and test restoration so your local recovery setup is ready when you need it.

How our traffic policy works

Our Ghana VDS plans include unlimited traffic subject to our usage policy. We reserve the right to throttle from 500 GB. In usual operation, we allow usage up to around 3 TB before investigating. This is our normal operating practice, rather than a guaranteed 3 TB allowance without review.

A traffic review is relevant when your workload transfers large volumes through downloads, video, repeated database exports or public file distribution. Estimate both normal usage and peaks, and contact our team before ordering if you expect sustained high transfer. This helps us assess your application and recommend the appropriate setup.

You can reduce unnecessary origin traffic through suitable caching, efficient image formats and protection against abusive requests. For public websites, follow our step-by-step Cloudflare protection guide. A CDN complements your hosting; configure it around the application’s private pages and dynamic content.

Prepare your server for a successful launch

Once the server is available, prepare the operating system and application before directing production visitors to it. Root access gives you flexibility, while a clear launch checklist makes the environment easier to maintain.

  • Secure access: use SSH keys, protect the administrator account and restrict administrative ports.
  • Update software: patch the OS and application dependencies on a planned schedule.
  • Configure services: install only the web, database and runtime components you need.
  • Enable HTTPS: use a valid certificate and test redirects and application URLs.
  • Test recovery: verify backups, snapshot procedures and an application restore.
  • Monitor capacity: track CPU, memory, disk usage, traffic and application errors.
  • Test the site: check forms, login, payments, email delivery and background jobs before changing DNS.

If you are moving an existing website, plan the migration around the database and recent user activity. Copy the application, test it on the new environment, then arrange the final synchronisation and DNS change. Reach our support team to discuss your migration requirements and the right rollout sequence.

For a new business project, you may also need a domain and professional email. Follow our guide to choosing a domain in Ghana and explore our business email packages to complete the setup.
